Disgusting Roses

Read how God used flowers to inspire ministry

Disgusting Roses   ~

Thank you, Lord, for journaling subjects other than my own boring feelings. On Valentine’s Day, my husband brought me four dozen roses. On one hand, this act of kindness made me feel cherished and surprised. But on the other hand, I felt disgusted with holiday marketing. My husband and I agreed not to celebrate certain holidays. How did he get tricked into this ridiculous scheme? Then a wonderful idea crossed my mind. It must have come from you, Jesus.  Just last Sabbath I heard first-hand experiences from literature evangelists at the Summerville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Could my family and I be flower evangelists in our apartment complex this Sabbath? Oh, this is so wonderful. Dear Lord, please lead us to people of peace and give us power to find the lost.

As we started out, curious little angels from the playground joined in and soon they were leading us eagerly by the hands to meet their mothers with a beautiful display of roses in my husband’s arms. Within two hours, just by walking next door or up a couple flights of stairs, my family and I had met 18 smiling adult faces and 21 elementary-aged children. We’ve been invited to two birthday parties and three women offered me their phone numbers. In the face of consumerism, God turns all things into good! Lord, what would you have me to do now?
